Vacancy on School Committee

Vacancy on School Committee
Posted on 08/02/2019

The Westborough School Committee has a vacancy due to a resignation. The term for this position begins immediately and will run until March 2020. The responsibilities of School Committee members are delineated by Massachusetts General Law (MGL) Chapter 71, Section 37 as follows:

”The school committee in each city and town and each regional school district shall have the power to select and to terminate the superintendent, shall review and approve budgets for public education in the district, and shall establish educational goals and policies for the schools in the district consistent with the requirements of law and statewide goals and standards established by the board of education.”

The Westborough School Committee generally meets twice per month during the academic year, and sometimes more frequently during budget preparation. Subcommittee work involves additional meetings, and School Committee members are expected to attend Town Meetings as well.

The position will be appointed by the joint majority vote of the Board of Selectmen and School Committee following interviews.
